Reading this mildly interesting article on whether or not Marvel's Avengers movie universe was worth it or not, got to this part:
(*An alternate opening to Incredible Hulk also features a sequence of Bruce Banner in the Arctic attempting to kill himself, but instead triggering The Hulk (remember that anecdote from Avengers?). The enraged Hulk smashes a glacier, inadvertently breaking open the ice containing Captain America. Go HERE for a look at that moment.)
Much like Cap's shield on Tony's desk in IM and Coulson handing it to him in IM2, I am fascinated at just how much thought they put into these fucking movies.

Other fascinating things:
- Deadpool vs Gangnam Style is the actual best thing.

- This girl can say any word backwards in a matter of seconds. FUCKING WIZARD. [h8 tumblr's video player]

Um um to finish this post, let's do a fic rec because we caaaaaan. [oh god i have so many things i want to rec but i'll just pull out a few.]

- lords of kobol, hear my prayers is a avengers/battlestar glactica fusion in which carol danvers is kara thrace, only well, not really. i can't really explain it but it is wonderful and i love carol and i love carol/tony which is a thing that doesn't exist like, anywhere on the internet and only in like, two issues of comics, but i love them so so much.

- Handsome and the Hulk is a tony/hulk beauty and the beast au that's equal parts amusing and sad with all the elements that make beauty and the beast a classic story while still keeping the characters themselves.

- Fragments of a Different War okay look, fics set during Civil War is like my kryptonite I'm default set to love 90% of them. This one is a non-linear What If piece that has Tony and Steve being a couple changing the entire course of the timeline.

- I’ll remember best of all, all the things we didn’t say is a tony/steve set during Dark Reign, after Iron Man World's Most Wanted, during the parts of Stark Disassembled where Tony is brain dead. Basically GROSS SOBBING DON'T READ THIS ONE UNLESS YOU WANT A GOOD CRY definitely probably the saddest fic i've read in this fandom so far, one of those that lingers with you long after you've read it, literally cried in the shower for like fifteen minutes after reading it, but it is wonderful and gorgeous and if you do need a good cry, this is it.

- no one laughs at god in a war (no atheists in foxholes) is a short and lovely second person fic (of which this fandom is lacking!!! wish i could fill it but fml!!) chronicling tony and steve's [almost]last moments with some of their first moments together.

Augh if you're looking for a Supernatural/Avengers crossover, you should maybe read this one. And yes, I too find it amusing that the first Avengers fic I choose to rec in my journal is Clint/Coulson, a pairing that I don't care for all that much.

Basically, Clint makes a crossroads deal to get Coulson back; Clint goes to hell; Coulson moves heaven and earth to get him back. Or, how Sam and Dean would be super horrified that there are two more people in the world just as fucked up as they. It's horrific and angsty and ughh Coulson is perfect and Crowley is Crowley and Thor has some badass niece and aughhh I just love fic concerning hell I should probably see a shrink about that or something.

(Happy ending is included.)

Title: Follow You Into The Dark
Author: [livejournal.com profile] misachan
Characters/Pairings: Coulson/Clint/Natasha, Crowley, Fury, Hela
Rating: R
Warnings: Character death, depictions of torture, disturbing imagery and general hell unpleasantness.
Word Count: 13778
Spoilers: Post-movie for Avengers/Vague season 6 references for Supernatural
Summary: On a cold, windy night Clint Barton goes to a crossroad to wipe some red from his ledger.

Excerpt:
"How're we going to find him?" he said, half hoping Natasha actually had an idea and half just to hear a voice that wasn't moaning in agony. "We need a plan. We're wasting too much time, this place is endless. Maybe we should climb up somewhere to get a better look."

For a second Coulson thought she hadn't heard him, then she stopped short, swearing softly under her breath in Russian as she sprinted to the right. Coulson rushed after her and found her looking down into a crevasse they'd passed earlier. "No," she said, and when he stepped next to her he could feel how hard she was shaking. "We should climb down."

The sense of that hit Coulson like a truck. Of course they would have to go down. Clint loved being up above everyone else; he lived for the high ground, for the ability to take in a situation in one sweeping glance.

Of course Clint Barton's hell would include not being able to see the sky.

I should really remember to rec more things more often. Hrm. I did set up a shiny new pinboard account for my shiny new fandom. All Avengers fic is there. Other stuff still goes to delicious, for now.

In my never-ending quest to organize my delicious account, I can now tell you I've read and saved 43 big bangs this year, which is almost twice what I read and saved of last year's. Granted, there were more produced this year but still, that's a lot, yeah? And I figure since I've no life I'm being a martyr and weeding out the ones worthy of reading for y'all, lol.

Under the cut, 9 big bangs from this year and two shorter recs as well.

I guess Big Bang ends today? IDK I don't pay attention to the schedule, but that's what I'm hearing. So it seems appropriate to post this now, lol. My to-read list is at...51, so. There may be another one of these posts down the road, haha. I like reccing things, though I haven't done it terribly often in the past for some reason.

Uhh, under the cut, 8 BBs and 2 short fics, in no particular order.

My mom just asked me what a 'meme' is and then got pissy when I couldn't give her a solid answer. Well maybe if you didn't read over my shoulder you goddamn bitch I would be more inclined to try and figure out one. Sigh. Anyway. Obviously making that hiatus post was a waste of time, here I am. Think I'll mostly do fandom-related stuff for now though. Writing out my personal shit doesn't seem to help, as well, writing out this paragraph isn't making me feel better. So anyway.

Inception recs! Under the cut lies the communities I think are worth checking out, as well as 9 fics I enjoyed reading.

Dictionary for a Dead Language by [livejournal.com profile] britomart_is
(nc-17, sam/dean, 22k)
Under mysterious circumstances bitterly disputed by the historians, Sam Winchester said yes to Lucifer. Three years later, Lucifer is gone and the familiar landscape that the Winchesters once traversed is a burnt-out ruin of its former self — not to mention the damage done to Lucifer's vessel. Trapped in a grotesque parody of domestic bliss with a brother he no longer recognizes, a shell-shocked Dean has no reason to believe that happy endings exist for men like the Winchesters.

Words cannot express how much I love her writing. I will follow her until the end of the world, I swear, jfc. So amazing, so descriptive, so right-in-the-moment. This was the big bang I was waiting for.

Starting with my top three favorites:

1. The Outlaw Dean Winchester by [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl
(nc17, wincest, minor other OC pairings, 36,900 words)
Samuel Colt rides into Lawrence on May 2, 1887, long legs nearly wrapping around the belly of his bay mare, black duster caked with the reddish silt of the trail. He's the Pinkerton Agency's best, determined to take down the gang of outlaws and their notorious leader...When Sam and Dean’s loyalty to each other keeps them saying no to Michael and Lucifer, Zachariah sets out to prove that it’s only out of a twisted sense of obligation. That if they weren’t brothers, what would be between the Winchesters would be nothing like love.

Finished this one last night and asl;jdf so awesome. Sam and Dean on horses is like the one thing I always request people to write for me, and added with the fact that they're honest to god cowboys, this wa right up my alley. And it's scorching hot all the way through, even though the actual porn isn't until closer to the end. I loved [livejournal.com profile] runedgirl's two demon!dean fics and this one doesn't disappoint either.

2. The Vernacular Process by [livejournal.com profile] rei_c
(r, wincest, 27k)
On summer vacation, Sam and a college friend head down to the Atlantic South. What happens in South Carolina stays in South Carolina -- and, as Sam finds out, has happened over and over and over again. Will this turn out to be a curse or a blessing in disguise, and how will Dean feel about it -- once he finds out?

I'm not sure I've ever really advertised how much I love South Carolina. It's been ten years since the last time I was there but I still think about it all the time. Such a beautiful place with history that I can just roll around in. And this fic works that history right in. Love the idea of Sam and Dean being destined together no matter what time period they're in.

3. Apocalypse Z by [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr
(pg-13, Gen!, ZOMBIES, ~21k)
Brian Williams was gravely saying, “Remember, once a person has been bitten, they must be shot in the head before they die and reanimate.” Of all the ways he’d imagined the world ending, this one had never entered Sam’s mind. It’s the zombie apocalypse, and Sam, Dean and Castiel are just trying to get to Bobby’s in one piece. And not undead.

This is that zombie fic you've been waiting for. Hilarious and fast-paced, it's totally worth reading.

So, needless to say, Rock Band:Beatles is pretty amazing. It's bright and shiny, and they went pretty hardcore with the continuity. And the extras. The entire Christmas Album is available to listen to. You get achievements just for calibrating your instruments! I couldn't stop grinning like a fool for at least the first hour we were playing it. I was singing of course. And with the cool harmonies thing, I could jump to the parts I was used to singing with my mom. :) It's got a whole new look, and it's AMAZING. Two downfalls: My favorite songs, Hey Jude, Let it Be, and Yesterday, are not exactly Rock Band material, so they're not on it. So I can't sing them. :| Plus I think they might be considered just McCartney songs, not Beatles songs, even though they did sing them. And the big downfall: Overdrive. Or "Beatlemania" as it's called in the game, haha. Or "Star Power" as I still call it, lol. But when you activate it, it makes it incredibly hard to see the notes because the paths are so busy and trippy. But other than that.

We played some Guitar Hero 5, too, but I was just thinking "Can we get back to Rock Band?" the whole time, lol. I switched to guitar for that. There was some fun stuff, like "Under Pressure" but I'm really kind of over Guitar Hero. I know the point of it is the varied track list, but anymore I don't know half the songs on it, and usually, they kind of suck anymore. So. But the look of it is nice, and it is very user friendly, you can jump in and out when you want and stuff like that.

And then we went back to Rock Band:Beatles, and I switched over to drums, and Brett and Zack let me make the entire playlist. Revolution, Come Together, I Am the Walrus, and like 8 other songs. And then it was like 5 am, so we decided to stop. And then I rocked the hell out of Helter Skelter on hard. And now I woke up with it stuck in my head, HA.

Uhm. Anyway.

Today's episode of General Hospital is making me want to not ride carnival rides again.

OH! I almost forgot about this!

Life as We Know It by [livejournal.com profile] sevenfists. Yes, it's from 2007. I'm still catching up on the amazing stuff in this fandom, okay. But seriously, reading this story, the description and dialogue is so amazing, I was SO INVESTED in the ending. The summary reads "Our boys buy curtains" (so hey, Curtain!fic!!) but the story is SO MUCH MORE than that. I wish I could be more articulate about it. But GO READ IT. Even if you read it back in the day. READ IT AGAIN. Definitely my favorite of...uhm. This week.
