First of all, Chicago traffic is THE WORST traffic I have ever been in, and this includes LA traffic. It took me nearly 3 hours to get 30 miles. Of course it was 5 pm on a Friday afternoon but still. Ridiculous. And then when I left (at 5 am on a Monday!) it was still pretty bad for as early as it was. Sigh. This is why I could never be a big city girl.

So, ChiCon was cool. As usual. I arrived late Friday afternoon, so I didn't see anyone speak on Friday at all. Met up with [livejournal.com profile] build_the_moon for the first time, which was fun, though we didn't actually spend too much time together, too busy doing ALL THE THINGS, but it's always cool to meet online folks in real life. Spent most of my time Kelly and Kate, though, which is what I planned. I think it was probably my last Chicon, though. Nothing will top last year, and Nashcon is cheaper and closer to me. So yeah. Last hurrah.

As you have seen here and there via awesomely stealthy people (like seriously, I roomed with volunteers, I know how strict they are about recording video. People are NINJAS) there was plenty of totally PG fun. LOLOLOL. I think the only panel that was legit PG was Jared and Jensen's. But yeah. Sebastian and Mark are the bestest. As long as you're not an 11 year old child.

I had a wonderful seat in the second row of Silver, on the aisle, even. I see now why people pay so much money for reserved seats. I unfortunately do not have a good camera, but eh, I prefer to watch than take pics anyway. I did get a few when everyone wondered up and down the aisle, though.

this post is huuuuuge )

Since As I'm looking around on the SuperWiki, there aren't very many videos linked, and I know [livejournal.com profile] agt_spooky didn't record her usual awesome vids because her seat was a couple rows behind mine (I kept looking over wondering if she was recording and hoping she was!), I will try and give a brief panel summary of what I remember of J2 since, let's face it, they will always be the main event.

So that's that. I did have lots of fun, as one does at a convention, but like I said, I think nothing will ever top surprise!Jensen and J2M panel from last year, so I'm probably done with ChiCon. This was my fifth convention and at some point I've got to say 'okay enough,' you know? So yeah. Two conventions a year is far too much, Nashcon is much closer and much cheaper, and at some point I'd like to make it to Vancouver. Though the idea of flying there terrifies me, let alone the idea of being able to afford it.

Alas, until Nashcon.

And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

I couldn't help myself.

Please do try not to catch anything on fire when you're lighting off things that explode. Burnt hair has a very unpleasant smell, I'm sure other body parts smell (and hurt!) even worse. No, no I totally don't know this from experience or anything. (We had these things called Dragon Farts, they were AWESOME, it was like a fountain of sparkles, and then it popped a little bit, and then it shrilled!!!) I MEAN... <.< FIREWORKS SHOULD ALWAYS BE DONE BY A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL.

My favorite thing about this holiday is easily Pronto Pups and Lemon Shake Ups. I fucking love carnival food. My least favorite thing about this holiday is fucking mosquitoes. My mosquito bites have mosquito bites at this point. I'm about to pop some Benadryl and crash. And then wake up and do the whole carnival food and fireworks thing ALL OVER AGAIN TOMORROW. Only hopefully with better bug spray and less humidity, bleh. We've reached the part of summer where the moment I step outside, I instantly want to turn around and go back in. OH INDIANA YOUR HUMIDITY IS SOOOO AWESOME.

I had a meme I was gonna do but I told myself I was going to bed at 4am and it's...4:16am. So, some other time.

I bet you were starting to wonder if I'd ever make a post at all about this? ...no, probably not.

Nashcon by the numbers: Total miles - 530.9; Total money spent: around $300; Total amount of sleep: 32 hours in 5 days. Amount of fun had: Priceless.

Bah, I'm too lazy to upload photos to go with the story now, oh well. Here have our photo op to make up for the lack of other pics:

Photobucket

There was a very adorable litte boy in a Superman shirt in line in front of us that Misha picked up for their photo op. That was cute.

Anyway.

Thursday I worked until 8am, slept a few hours and drove to Nashville.

aks;ljfsldkjf so many cool things I'm sure I'm forgetting but whatever. I'd like to take this moment to thank [livejournal.com profile] twofourteen for selling me her ticket so that I didn't have to deal with Creation (who always seems to screw up my order somehow), as well as [livejournal.com profile] toolazytowork for allowing me not only to stay in her house but like, trusting me with a house key and leaving me alone (with her adorable pets) to bumble around. Please please stop worrying about Friday night, I'm just glad you recovered and everything was glorious for the next two days.

In related news, every time Jared tweets I flail. I set up my phone to receive his and Misha's tweets AT ALL TIMES because I don't want to miss this shit, it's G L O R I O U S.

I'm working 6 days in a row, then going to Muncie with [livejournal.com profile] aplethora (or should I say "rescuing her from a life of boredom") and then working 6 more days, all on top of coming back from Nashville and then working the next day, so essentially I don't have a free day until June 24th, so if you don't see me around anywhere, that's why.

Sorry this post is long and rambly and really probably not all that exciting since I didn't discuss any of what was said in the panels or anything (THEY WERE ALL HILARIOUS). If you follow my twitter, you know I updated about pretty much everything that happened to me this weekend no matter how absurd or mundane, as well as tweeted through all the panels as best I could. But in short: I HAD AN AWESOME TIME AND WAS SAD TO GO.

As in, "Whatever you do, you will always end up here. Whatever choices you make, whatever details you alter, we will always end up...here." (that's Samifer in Supernatural 5.04 if you live under a rock. :P)

So weird. I've been darkmerrick for friggin ever, since before I got this journal in '04 even. It's a big thing. People won't know who I am, wibble.

Two things I keep meaning to mention and don't.

Everyone joked that Legion was like Supernatural: the movie, and it...kind of was, in a way. But in a terribly produced and executed way. Don't pay money to see it, really. It's terrible. I've read better bad fic of the apocalypse sort. Really. But anyway, there's one thing from the movie that has kinda stuck with me and made me wonder a bit about Castiel and even God's intentions.

The basic plot of Legion is that God ordered the angels to exterminate human kind, okay. But Michael rebels and goes to defend JessCharlie and her baby.

I suppose I should warn for spoilers for the end of Legion )

That was a lot of text to explain one little question. Whew.

Point number two:

one of my all-time favorite Whedon quotes ever:

Angel: Well, I guess I kinda worked it out. If there's no great glorious end to all this, if nothing we do matters... , then all that matters is what we do. 'Cause that's all there is. What we do. Now. Today. I fought for so long, for redemption, for a reward, and finally just to beat the other guy, but I never got it.
Kate Lockley: And now you do?
Angel: Not all of it. All I wanna do is help. I wanna help because, I don't think people should suffer as they do. Because, if there's no bigger meaning, then the smallest act of kindness is the greatest thing in the world.

I can't decide if I want this quote to pertain more to Sam or Dean. Because at this point, they're both trying for redemption in some form or another, Sam for the demon blood/lucifer freeing and Dean for torturing in hell.

I like how I can point out quotes that are relevant to me, but I totally fail at expounding on them in a good solid meta-esque way. But just. Food for thought.

Also! This article is an interesting read (at least the part about Angel was):
Spiritual Atheism: Buffy, Angel, House, & Doctor Who.

Happy Thursday!
Also, Happy April Fools. I don't think I can top last year's prank of convincing people my parents had bought me an impala, so I have nothing planned.

so uh, i just buried my dog. my puppy. My Winchester. my mom let him loose and because he was a silly thing with too much energy, he ran away and some dick in a white truck didn't see him.

we only had him three months.

i wanted to burn him like only a Winchester should be buried, but my parents said it'd be too hard.

i don't...

What am I supposed to be thankful for now.

So yeah, Sunday the big day. Gotta admit, I was pretty exhausted by this point, so I definitely missed some of the little nuances that made it so perfect.

Firstly, let me just thank [livejournal.com profile] dawnintheforest for the bajillionth time for allowing me to stay with her and putting up with me. I'm so glad to have met you, luv.

I'm always torn whether to use real names or user names when making things like this, but I'll stick with the usernames, I suppose.

Apologizing ahead of time because I do not have a decent camera anymore as mine is rather aged, so a lot of my pics are through my phone, which, while not a bad quality camera phone, can only do so much. So I don't have many pictures and the ones I do are only so-so.

This is the first pumpkin I ever carved. Pretty good, eh? Haha. Took me 2+ hours and my hand cramped like whoa. I'll be posting more pictures of our other pumpkins and my costume and stuff tomorrow or the next day, but consider this a sneak peek. :D
