comic books and movies errywhere up in dis bitch

So I saw both The Amazing Spider-man and The Dark Knight Rises this week.

I liked Spider-man better.

I'm not even a fan of Peter Parker like, at all but Andrew Garfield IS SO PRECIOUS and augh he can act and his sad face made my face sad and Emma Stone is amazing (though a bit wasted in the first half of the movie) and THEY ARE SO PERFECT TOGETHER AUGHHH. The movie had some flaws like Peter Parker is pretty stupid with revealing his identity but I was always engaged and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. (Brett had a lot of problems but fuck him he always tears apart the things I enjoy.)
eta: also, Stan Lee's cameo in this one I WAS FUCKING SCREAMING normally I'm just like "oh look, Stan Lee" I WAS LAUGHING MY ASS OUT OF MY CHAIR OH MY GOD.

Batman, on the other hand...we both agreed was far too long, among other things.

Especially considering the first and second acts were pretty much the same. "Oh, Bruce Wayne's getting back on the Batman horse despite all physical handicaps that say he shouldn't, okay. OH Bane breaks his back and sends him to no man's land and then...Bruce Wayne's getting back on the Batman horse despite all physical handicaps that say he shouldn't. LIKE, WHAT. REALLY. At least a half hour of that could've been cut out.

Bane was amazing, my god the muscles on Tom Hardy and I really didn't mind his Sean Connery impression. Someone give Anne Hathaway her own Catwoman movie I loved every minute she was on screen. The reveal of Talia was a complete surprise because we'd forgotten about her completely (though I did suspect that character of being evil the moment Bruce slept with her. Which, also, kind of random, as he'd just been talking to Alfred about how he couldn't move on from Rachel.) Also, MICHAEL FUCKING CAINE. I kinda felt like they misues Alfred a bit and ALL THIS FUCKING MONOLOGING UGH but at the same time, my god I could listen to Michael Caine berate Bruce Wayne until the end of time. #ACTING /BLINKYTEXT

The last half hour was pretty dynamically amazing too, I was definitely entranced but it didn't make up for the number of times I looked at the time on my phone throughout the middle. SURPRISE CILLIAN MURPHY! SURPRISE TALIA. SURPRISE TOM HARDY FLASHBACK WITHOUT THE MASK. And the end, man I fucking loved JGL and all but "You should use your given name, Robin" was THE WORST LINE OF DIALOGUE EVER. I'm okay with him being Robin (even if we won't actually get to see it on screen WHICH IS TRAGIC) but that line of dialogue is THE WORST. Why couldn't it have been more subtle? Who cares if not everyone gets a "Here you go, Mr. Drake" reference that's what the internet is for goddamnit. Ugh.

And then the enddddd Alfred seeing them at the cafe and his faaaace and then he gets up and walks away just like he said he would THAT WAS PERFECT.

But yeah overall I wasn't actually all that fond of that movie.

Related, I've been consuming comics like nobody's business, as I'm sure have a lot of you since Avengers. I'm really not a comics reader; my medium is words not visual, I've never really been able to connect with pictures, and I still slog my way through comics feeling a little bit lost at all times, as far as panel to panel to dialogue to page, and I haaaaate how the art style changes all the time. But I do love the stories. I'm in the middle of Avengers Dissembled right now, reading completely out of order. I've read Infinity Gauntlet (THANOS!!) and Demon in a Bottle (TONY LOOKS LIKE A PORN STAR) and I'm in the middle of Ultimates 2 (which I'm actually enjoying despite everyone hating it and all the characters being rather douche-y). I actually read and finished Civil War first, which WHY DID I DO THAT TO MYSELF WHYYYY but I have all the Steve/Tony feels because of it (specifically THIS, from Casualties of War) so I suppose in that way I done did good and I'm glad I read it first, because I don't think I would've have ever started shipping them without it and now THEY'RE ALL I THINK ABOUT. You know how Winchesters used to be all-consuming? WELL NOW IT'S SUPERHUSBANDS. lol fml.

Um what else idk I don't do much with my life anymore.

OH EVERYONE SHOULD BE WATCHING POLITICAL ANIMALS THANK YOU THAT IS ALL.

Nothing can touch the awesome that was The Avengers. The Amazing Spiderman was also epic. The Dark Knight Rises was okay (really too dark for my taste). :-/ I prefer to leave the movies pumped up... not severely depressed. lol

Nothing can touch Avengers. And like, I wasn't expecting Batman too, I wasn't expecting rainbows and sunshine and I usually enjoy the darker things but it was just...blah. Kind of draining, even. It was really dark but there still was humor in a few places, more than I was expecting actually, but it just wasn't enough, I guess.

[identity profile] daxcat79.livejournal.com 2012-07-27 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I usually like dark moments too, and it was interesting enough, but I think it was just a bit dramatic. How many times must Bruce be beaten down. lol

How many times must Bruce be beaten down.

YES EXACTLY. Far too dramatic.

OMFG THAT ROBIN LINE WAS THE WORST. THE WORST.

Like I knew I would love Batman and be blind to any faults because I am biased biased biased and I did love Batman and refuse to see any faults BUT EVEN I THOUGHT THAT LINE WAS THE WORST.

FOR GOD'S SAKE, NOLAN, YOU MADE INCEPTION, YOU CAN'T THINK YOUR AUDIENCE IS *THAT* STUPID.

Other than that I am shakin' my head atchu in disagreement but good god that was awful.

Oh wait I am in agreement with your assessment of Tom Hardy's arms also hhhhh. And Anne was amazing.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2012-07-28 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
THE WORST.

See I enjoy Batman a lot so I was expecting to love this movie but I just couldn't get into it AT ALL. I wish I could see what you see in it.

I believe my mom's comment was "built like a brick shithouse." Which, YESSSSSSS.

I thought Spiderman was such an intensely emotional film but The Dark Knight Returns is my fourth favorite of all-time now.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
It was pretty emotional. And I mean, TDKR absolutely was as well, I could see it on the screen that it should've been but it just wasn't getting to me; I just wasn't connecting with it for whatever reason. :|

I really, REALLY enjoyed ASM, but the more you think about it, the more you realize just how much they left unresolved. SO MANY PLOTHOLES gahh. I wish I had a link handy, but there was an article that pretty much proved that they had obviously done a MAJOR re-edit of the film before releasing it, the point where tons of stuff was re-shot or just cut entirely. But even so, I loved Andrew Garfield as Spidey (and I AM a huge, huge fan of Peter Parker ;D) and Emma Stone was perf ♥

Haven't seen TDKR, not sure if I'll even bother >.> I'm not as into Nolan's Batman movies tbqh. But Michael Caine is amazing and absolutely the greatest thing about those movies and I will not hear anything to the contrary.

Lol @ the Robin line. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Hahahahaaaa

I finished reading Civil War over the weekend! And fucking BAWLED MY EYES OUT during Casualties of War and also the fucking What If...? issue holy fucking shit NO no no no WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT noOOOOOoo sob T__T and because I'm a glutton for punishment (and also because I hate reading stuff out of order even tho it's impossible NOT to with comics), I'm reading The Death of Captain America (I can't find the 3rd [and final] volume, it's killing me!!!!) and Fallen Son. And then after that if I haven't flung myself off a cliff in misery I'll read Young Avengers: Children's Crusade.

YAY COMICS

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
See, I guess I'm not thinking about it enough. I did notice some of the plotholes (like how many people find out Peter's Spiderman in 2 hours, for one thing) but I wouldn't be surprised at what all was left unresolved. Brett has a huge problem with it because of them. I'm like LALALALA BETTER THAN BATMAN, really.

I really loved TDK and I don't remember Begins but I seem to recall it being the beginning of my Batman enjoyment, but yeah TDKR...meh. And YES I SHIT YOU NOT that is exactly how it's revealed that he's Robin. Like UGHHHH even if the rest of the movie had been perfect I think that line would've still ruined it.

It is so hard to read things in order I feel so awful and confused when I'm like "But that hasn't happened yet." "BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON." Google is so my friends. (Is this the issues of Cap you're looking for? (http://www.4shared.com/zip/fy4bMGv9/6_Captain_America_-__Death_of_.html) I google-fu'ed. And downloaded and it looks legit. Also so can I have 1&2? ^.^ I really should've read all of the aftereffects of Civil War before jumping back to Dissembled. Or I probably should've just read Dissembled first, huh.)

OMGGGGGG CARLEEN THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! your Google-fu is much stronger than mine, clearly! I spent HOURS trying to find that issue x___x Did you search for the individual issues or smth? Idk why I had so much trouble finding it, gahh.

I WILL UPLOAD 1 & 2 FOR YOU ♥ I didn't bookmark the links when I DL'd them and iirc they were both slow as fuck :P I should start ~giving back while MediaFire is still up and running, anyway :3

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
YAY I'M GLAD IT'S THE RIGHT THING! I spent like a half hour doing searching for "the man who bought america mediafire" and such and getting skeevy (and lots of discontinued fileserve/post/jungle/etc links) then finally I think I just searched "Death Captain America v3" and that popped right up! But if it hadn't I was out of ideas, too. Sometimes you just gotta work at it at different angles, I guess. :)

TY TY! I mean, I guess I could google search them too lol, but it's so much easier to download from someone/where I know is what I want, you know?

[identity profile] radiophile.livejournal.com 2012-07-31 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
Lol omg "Death Captain America v3" is like the ONLY PERMUTATION I hadn't tried. I literally searched for just about every other conceivable variation x___x Anyway, thanks again, bb! ♥

And here you go! :D → Vol 1 | Vol 2

Ahhh thank youuuuu very much! <333
