fic: remembrance

uhh...i wrote Avatar fanfic. <.<
without further ado, as any notes would be longer than the story itself.

Remembrance

Neytiri mourns the loss of her ikran.



In the midst of the battle, she cannot take the time to mourn Seze properly. Instead, she channels her grief and rage through her bow.

As Jake calls to her over the radio, she remains separated from the facts as she tells him Seze is no more.

Only when the battle is over does Neytiri allow herself to feel the loss. There is little satisfaction in knowing Seze is with Ewya now, as Seze is no longer with her, but it is the only comfort she has.

From now on, the only way she can feel close to Seze is through the whispers of Ewya.

She watches the tendrils of the Tree of Souls shift as the wind blows, and remembers what it is like to ride that breeze.

She doesn’t hear Jake walk up behind her. "Come with me," he says. She looks at his offered hand, his five fingers compared to her four. Sometimes she wonders if he'll ever understand her fully. It is a time to mourn. She does not want to play.

She wants to run when Jake’s banshee lands in front of them, but his hand grips hers tightly. "Just wait. Feel. Remember."

"An ikran is not made for two riders." All she has left are excuses.

"Yeah, well, we’ll manage."

"We are not honoring Seze's memory this way."

"You’ll honor Seze by remembering what it was like with her, not what it is like living without her. Trust me." There is no one she trusts more than Jake.

It's been so long since she's felt the wind on her face, taking her breath away. When she hears Jake’s yell of "dive", she cannot help but let out a cry of rejoice.

This is the first Avatar fic I've read - love the movie but can't quite bring myself to be fandom-y (?) about it - and I can't wait for your next one, m'dear!

Also, please tell me you don't actually remember all these words, that you had to look them up?

There's not that much of it out there, really. Nothing great, at least. I dunno if I'll be writing any more, it's tough to wrap my mind around that world.

Um. Well. I'm good with languages? I did look up "remembrance", which was 'ok. Such a tiny word in place of such a large word.

I know, the grief on her adorable face just made me all ;__; I wondered what the process was when a rider lost their ikran, so that's why I started writing. but uh...I decided I didn't want to make up that part.
