Fic: A Heroes Complex
Title: A Hero's Complex
Rating: PG-13 for suicidal and incesty thoughts
Spoilers: I can't remember the episode name, but I think it's 2.09
Characters: Peter and Claire
Peter watched her as she fell, another attempt to die, even though she couldn’t. As she landed and her bones snapped, something inside him snapped as well. What had happened to her in the months he was gone?
She stood up, her straight golden locks caked in blood. She’d managed to split her head open this time, break a few bones. He watched the gash heal itself. He watched her reset her bones, her face not even flinching at the pain she must’ve caused herself. How many times has she tried this? He wonders. How many times has death defied her?
He walks up to her, and for a second, he thinks she knows he’s there. She pauses for a second, and her eyes glimmer. He can hear her thoughts. I’m a freak. I’ll always be a freak. I’m okay with that. I was okay with that. I had Peter. I had Dad. What do I have now?
Peter recoils a bit, wondering what could’ve happened to her father. He wants to hold her, let her know that she still has him. He can’t justify his longing for Claire, his need to make her feel safe. It goes beyond what an uncle should feel.
He reaches out, an invisible hand in the air, and brushes a piece of blonde hair. She doesn’t feel him. He pulls his hand back, realizing things are better for her this way, at least for now. First, he needed to save the world. He didn’t know if Claire was alive in the future he saw, but he didn’t want her to ever have to see it.
