ASSEMBLED WE ARE STRONG FOREVER FIGHT AS ONE
I think I've mentioned several times how my mother is that movie goer you want to throw popcorn at. Not only does she talk LOUDLY throughout the whole movie, she asks questions and makes guesses on what's going to happen next and "who's that actor?", instead of just WATCHING the fucking thing. She also tends to jump and scream and gasp and say things like 'HOLY SHIT!' in a crowded theater. Basically, going to see an action movie with her is a waste of time and money. So only upon a sixth viewing was I willing to see Avengers with her, though I've been trying to get her to go see it for the past month. I didn't realize she hadn't seen Captain America and Thor, though, so guess who was answering a whoole lotta questions? :||||| I felt really bad for the one other person in the theater; I hope he was having a rewatch, too.
- Number of times my mother ACTUALLY flailed: twice.
- Number of times she commented on Hemsworth's attractiveness: 3. (including a comment in the credits of "I wanna be Mr. Hemsworth's assistent yes please. That voice, those EYES.")
- Number of comments on Chris Evans attractiveness: 1+. (a literal "How is he real?!" and several comments on whether or not his hair was a wig.)
- Number of times I had to tell her Hawkeye was the Barton they were referring to: 2. (ARGHHHHHH)
- Number of times she gasped at something Tony Stark said or did: a;lska;sldkhf the number is too high for counting.
"Burdened with glorious purpose" never stops being funny. That and every time Hemsworth says "together" I just want to swoon. "We were raised TOGETHAH, we played TOGETHAHHHHH, we fought TOGETHAHHHHHH."
Bruce's line when he's first with Natasha, "I don't every time get what I want." I like it and I don't know why, though it could just be the word choice.
Pretty sure I can dress up as off-duty Natasha for Halloween this year, I have a red shirt and a black jacket and boots. I'd have to find a holster though. And convince Brett to dress up as Cap again. And find some Halloween party to actually go to. Ugh fuck life nevermind.
Loki and dat scarfff hnnng. Honestly the only scene in which I enjoy Loki, ngl. (Avengers fandom: I'm doing it wrong.) Oh, my mother commented on how Hiddles had 'an adorable smile' in that scene, as well.
I love the character of Natasha and everything about her, but gawd all her lines really do come out kind of clunky after awhile. Like, "red in my ledger" HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU SAY THE SAME THING? "I've been compromised" is also on notice, especially when she says it to Clint. There's no reason that he doesn't already know these things, I don't know why she has to reiterate to him in the same clunky dialogue she used with Loki. Also, I don't think Clint's actually asking her if she knows what it feels like to be unmade. I think it's a statement and he's looking for confirmation that what he's feeling is what he should be feeling, remorse and confusion and relief that he can find himself again, whoever that was before Loki.
Whoever started that "it's the Hulk in Bruce's reflection" bit on Tumblr is smoking the bad stuff. It's most definitely not Hulk in Bruce's reflection; you can see Bruce's glasses the entire time. Hulk no wear glasses.
I still get chills at the motherfucking assemble scene where the camera circles them all looking badass, and aughh my favorite part is most definitely still the long shot the follows Iron Man over to Cap and Tasha, then up to Hawkeye and then follows Hawkeye's arrow over to Thor and Hulk taking down a squadron.
Basically, TEAMWORK MOTHERFUCKERS.
In related news, I've watched Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow and Ultimate Avengers: The Movie and its sequel off Netflix last night. I actually really enjoyed the Ultimates movies with one shining exception: FUCKING HANK PYM. He is the most annoying and useless character EVER. And in the Next Avengers movie, his KID is the most annoying and useless character EVER. Ugh. Take your wife-abusing, annoying egotistical ass somewhere else.
I also watched Lost in Translation, which, why it only has one star rating on Netflix I don't know. I mean, okay, it's pretty bland and there's not much of a plot and I figured going in that I'd like it because it's one of those 'life is stagnant, trying to find a way' type movies that really hit home with me right now, and also Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, but I really enjoyed it. A lot of the positive reviews say to understand the movie, you must understand what traveling long distances feels like, and perhaps that's true, but also I think all you need to enjoy it is knowing what it feels like to be somewhere you thought you wanted to be but you really don't, and figuring out how to keep going anyway. Also it gave me a sense of Toyko and how I never ever want to go there.

ALSO YES on the Natasha lines. I am so sick of seeing "Love is for children" and "Red in my ledger" pop up in fic. GET YOUR OWN LINES KIDS.
And the Bruce thing reminds me of how my Pacific Northwestern roommate uses the "positive anymore" - he'll say like, "Anymore when I come here I park in the side lot." whereas I might say "I don't park in the main lot anymore." or "I always park in the side lot now."
...and looking it up (wikipedia) it appears that with Bruce being from Ohio, it might be a tic he has.
Also I might be a linguistics nerd sometimes.

Oh huh, that makes sense. It's weird I've never noticed, but I guess I do use anymore like that sometimes. Wiki says it's an Indiana thing, but only two of the examples are ways I'd use it, with anymore at the start of a sentence, like the example you used. I never realized that wasn't a common thing. I guess that's probably why it stands out for me when Bruce says it because it's in the middle of his sentence. INTERESTING.

THIS. I went to my 4th showing the same day as this was first going around tumblr and was super excited to see that reflection, only to find Bruce's glasses. Haven't had the heart to reblog and say anything, because I still think the concept is really cool. ://///
Ugh Nat's lines. They're really getting on my nerves too. I mean it makes sense story-wise for her to say the same things again to different characters because THEY WEREN'T AROUND THE FIRST TIME, but as a storytelling move for film, probably not the best choice. I have this sort of philosophy that Natasha goes for a minimalistic approach when choosing her words; she chooses her language carefully because she has so many secrets and knows just how to get people to talk and doesn't want her words to come back and bite her in the ass. And consequently, when she finds a way of expressing herself that is safe (ie "red in my ledger"), she can reuse the phrase without the fear that it's going to have ramifications.
And then I realize that that's probably just a weird coping mechanism that I have for her not having more lines and not having a whole movie to herself. :P
TEAMWORK IS THE GREATEST THING ABOUT THE MOVIE, HANDS DOWN. Like I love the movie as a whole, but the last two times I went to go see it, I was basically just patiently waiting until the NY fight because SO FUCKING GOOD.

Yeah, if it WAS Hulk that would be so cool, becaue Bruce is talking about being so exposed like a nerve it would only make sense that Hulk would be right under the surface.
Hmmm that makes sense, especially repeating something to keep the secrets safe. If you say a lie enough, you begin to believe it to be the truth.
UGH YES I thought I could be done with this movie, one last showing and hat's it, but man, the whole NY scene is just the epitome of everything awesome ever and I could watch it a hundred times and not get tired of it, I think.

The biggest problem I have with Natasha's lines is "I don't see how that's a party" - just because, Nat is a fucking spy, she lies and reads people for a living. She should be able to tell that Stark is being snarky/using a figure of speach. Steve saying that line, or Thor, would have made so much more sence to me. And on the subject of Thor - I love his thing about bilge snipe; "You don't have those here? Well, they are repulsive." I love how he says "repulsive". :D
The other line I like is Hawkeye's "Captain, it would be my genuine pleasure", or Fury's "You ever been in a war, Councilman? In a firefight? Did you feel an over abundance of control?" just because to me he sounds SO MUCH like Mal Reynolds from Firefly just then. THERE ARE SO MANY LINES.
On the subject of Hank Pym: I've only seen him in Earth's Mightiest Heroes but YES GODDAM he is so annoying. Which is annoying also because I like Janet van Dyne and would have no problem with Wasp being in the Avengers, but they come as a pair really and ANT MAN IS ANNOYING.

Haha, I actually like that line but I do see your point. I thought it kind of went back to the Natalie Rushman character and how she didn't really take any of Tony's shit in IM2 so basically she's taking what is Tony's sarcasm and redirecting it without showing him she's amused or whatever. Thor saying it would've been great too. Ahhh yes I love the bit about bilge snipe.
Ahhh there was one part that super reminded me of Firefly but now I don't remember what it was. It wasn't either of those lines, but I totally see a bit of Mal in Nick Fury. Have you seen the Firefly style Avengers credits?
Right? I find EMH Janet is a little annoying, but I think she would be a lot easier to tolerate if Hank wasn't around. I liked her a lot in Ultimates, especially since she kept saying she was leaving Hank, but then he'd do something heroic and she'd be all OH HANK and just ughhh.

I suppose occasionally EMH Janet is annoying, but most of the time I find her funny. Hank is just sort of... a wet blanked in EMH. Or at least, he is up to the point I've watched (end of S1). Whats he like in other universes?

Maybe he's included because he part of the original set up? Thor, Iron Man, Wasp, Ant-Man and Hulk. And then they add Hawkeye, Black Panther and whoever else...

That's probably true, according to the wiki he and Janet are technically 'founding members' of The Avengers so I guess they can't just completely forget about him. IDK I'm sure he has fans. I just am not sure I want to know who they are, haha.
