the levee done broke, son.
It amazes me how well the Zeppelin songs they choose for titles of Supernatural fit with the episodes, really. Also, has anyone else noticed that the best episodes of the show are the ones with Zeppelin titles?
After taking a few steps back and recovering, I finally decided to watch 4.21 again. I've always known that I was way too invested in this show and the characters, but I can honestly say I'll be glad when the season finale is over so I can stop having my heart ache for those boys. Even if it is a cliffhanger, I'll have the whole summer to put it behind me. I forget they aren't real people. :((
I don't hold anything against Dean because of his actions.
I don't hold anything against Sam because of his actions.
I think I will love both those boys no matter what they do. They're both doing what they do best. I don't even think there is a right or wrong in this situation.
I've seen several metas digging deeply into the symbolism of certain aspects of the show, and honestly? They make my brain hurt. Sometimes I find those types of things intently interesting, but right now? I'm just a viewer watching, not making guesses, not looking for things that aren't there.
Anyway, review as we go:
I'm sure it's been said several times, but WTF isn't Sam naked like Ruby was? Or, rather, how does his mind know how Ruby was tortured?
...I don't think it's intentional that he's laying like he's on a crucifix.
"Here, lemme look it up in my demon detox manual. Oh wait, no one ever wrote one." Bobby will never not be awesome.
Aw, little Colin Ford. He was the only guest star I didn't know was gonna be in this episode. I think this exchange is my favorite, because really, can you imagine explain the actions you take today to your younger self? I can't. "Life doesn't turn out the way you thought it would when you were 14 years old." And he's SO CREEPY WITH YELLOW EYES. I like how they brought up Jess again. I think it'd be easy to just forget about her like they kinda have been doing. It's a nice callback to the reason Sam got goin' down this road in the first place.
Having had the pleasure of experiencing dt's, I can totally sympathize with Sam. Also, Jared Padalecki can fucking act now. When did this happen? He was just a pretty face with decent skills until now but now he's like...awesome.
Did Mary Winchester get a nose job or something? She looks so different! Sad that Sam uses his mother to remind himself that Dean is too weak to deal with him. :(( Poor Sammy and his twisted logic. Also, is she in the new Transformers movie?
My friends made a valid point when we were watching this scene with Castiel. Wonder if Jensen actually screamed himself hoarse like the good actor he is, or if he's just doing that whole acktin' thang he does so well.
So scary veinyWillowSam was just a figment of his imagination, right? I was a little confused on that part. Cuz then came the seizures and stuff, and how the fuck does he float/slam himself around the room or whatever?
"shady politicians from planet Vulcan." The first time, I think I was eating when he said this line and spit out something. Oh, how the Trekkie in me cheered for joy.
Sam in bondage cuffs is relevant to my interests.
I will be SO PISSED if that's Anna's last appearance on the show. So ridiculous. SO RIDICULOUS. So much potential for a character, wasted. And hello, same pier used in Wishful Thinking.
So was Bobby a hallucination to Sam or not? And no, Dean, you can't kill Ruby. :( I like her.
Jared plays a drug addict eerily well. Jared, bb, is thar somethin' you need be tellin' us?
I like this whole scene with Sam and Ruby, though. It's obvious he's an addict trying to get more from his dealer by humoring her, but it's also obvious there is emotion between the two of them, I think. The whole thing's a little creepy any way you swing it, though. Ruby's obviously got her own game going on, but I don't think she's certain of what Sam's next moves will be yet. At least she wasn't until now. She doesn't ever look him in the eyes when she apologizes though. I don't know what to think, other than I'm glad we're seeing more Sam/Ruby interaction, lol.
Ha, the callback to season...IDK. The scene with Dean standing over the impala, talking to Bobby. "I know that kid." Sadly, I don't think he does at all anymore.
Anybody else get pervy thoughts when Ruby says "your appetite's getting much bigger."? And then they pan out to Sam and Ruby, under the sheets...dressed? WTF. Who lies under the sheets with clothes on, really. So uncomfortable.
I'm with ign.com on this whole "personal chef" thing. Is this really necessary? Duh, Lillth's evil, eating babies isn't OMG GROSSS. Also, anyone else flash to Season 3 of Buffy, "Band Candy"? What was that demon's name, Lurconis?
What's with the damn freaky camera angles in this whole confrontation scene? Like the camera is at chest level lookin' up at 'em. Makes their foreheads look even bigger.
SAY IT! I know I'm not the only one. VAMPIRE. And I HATE THAT TWATLIGHT GOT INTO MY BRAINZ in this oh so important scene. And there goes Jensen with his acting and his one perfect tear again, breakin' my heart.
Wonder if Jared and Jensen liked or didn't like beating the shit out of each other? Also kinda makes Dean wimpy. Sam's anger in choking him, I understand, but it also really scares me. Aw, the sad Dean theme. I hear it now. I didn't the first time.
And in the end, Dean can't even find the will to get up. It's not hell that breaks him anymore, it's losing his brother.
Gosh. I love the writing on this show. I really do.
On a totally not really related note, caught up on Dollhouse. Amy Acker + Alan Tudyk is very relevant to my interests. He's much hotter than he was as Wash as...the character he's playing on Dollhouse. I think that might say something bad about me, but whatever. I'm gonna be pissed if Dollhouse is canceled and suffers the fate of Fox hating anyone ever associated with Joss Whedon. *cries* Is Joss like Power Rangers? Once you go Joss, you can't go back? Or anywhere good? BOO.

No, really, I thought I was the ONLY ONE who still liked her. I think she's lying to Sam, but I do think it's relevant that she couldn't quite look him in the face when she said that it sucked that they had to be torn apart that way. Like - to paint Ruby in black-and-white is too simplistic. She can feel and she can betray at the same time. Which actually- someone had up a theory today that she's Meg and I keep getting closer and closer to buying it.
I'm less down on Dean than I was, but I do think that he's going to surprise us next episode, maybe even more than Sam will. Actually, scratch that, definitely more than Sam will because they have to overturn something and leave us shocked. And YES I HOPE THAT IS NOT ANNA'S LAST APPEARANCE. I have this terrible feeling her only purpose will be to give Dean her powers which would piss me off because she could have been so awesome. I think they're paralleling her with Sam because she got taken in the same episode and also - she's changed form completely without losing who she herself is. Human Anna and angel Anna are, as far as we know, no different. So could Sam and demon!Sam maybe not be so different? We keep assuming demon!Sam has to be different from Sam himself but does he?
...of course, if Anna's been evil all this time a wrench gets thrown into that.

I'm not even sure Anna's gonna be the one to give Dean powers anymore. I think her part may have been reduced even there. But yeah, I will be SO PISSED. And I think that if Sam does end up more demon!Sam than human!Sam, he'll still retain himself, much like Ruby has. I don't think it's just something they've forgotten to explain, how she still remembers what its like to be human. Although that theory did JUST pop into my head, so who knows.
Hey, I wouldn't even mind if Anna was evil. It'd give her somethin' to do.

I thought Ruby looked hot this ep. *is shallow, lol* I loved her hair. It's hard to hate someone whose hair looks like that imho. And I really doubt they'd leave us with that as the last of Anna.
I totally didn't notice Sam was laid out like a cross. Nice catch. :D

This episode was just amazing, and I can't wait to see what's going to happen this week. I'm scared out of my mind and excited at the same time.

And yeah, that's how I'm feeling.

How true is that.

Zeppelin songs are kinda hit or miss for me, honestly. But in relation to SPN, Zeppelin always pwns.

I wonder if Sam and Ruby had sex after he fed off her. They made it appear that way. I think they've had sex more than the one time. What difference does it make now? After he sucks down her blood, maybe it makes them horny for each other?
As for Sam and Dean, they are NOT versing each other. This endgame is SAMANDDEAN vs. heaven, hell, demons and angels. They MUST team up or they will regret it. This is a test of their bond! If they don't get it all back together, the Apocalypse WILL happen!
Love, Robin

I wondered that too, but the whole fully dressed thing bugged me if they had. I almost think that it's like Buffy, that sucking the blood is almost equal to a sexual thing.
I think the only way to save the seal is TWO Winchesters working TOGETHER. Whether or not that happens, I guess we'll see. :|

Haha so true!
I would have liked to see Sam naked ad yes no hard feelings or either of them. I love the boys!
i think Jared did a magnificent job and woot I love Ruby.. even though she must be a baddie! :(
