Lucifer Rising

This post is pretty much mostly if not all about Supernatural. If that's not your cup o', sorry. I feel like all I do is post SPN stuff anymore and so I'm kinda apologizing to those of you who could care less about my silly fandom.

Anyway.

I've posted a lot of thoughts in comments here and there, but now I'm gonna collect them into one pretty package. (notice how I didn't say one NEAT pretty package, I'm all over the place today). I apparently had a lot to say.

It's no secret I didn't really care for the finale. There were moments that were awesome, yes, but overall, it was no All Hell Breaks Loose. It was predictable in many places to me, and I had remained semi-unspoiled for the whole thing. So there's that.

you didn't need the feather to fly, you had it in you the whole time, dumbo
I don't know why, maybe the delivery, as Ruby's whole speech here is about the awesomest she's been all season, but that line, that comparison, is probably one of my favorites of the entire show, and it really endeared her to me. I'm one to easily admit Ruby's character's been up and down this season, but especially since we've seen hints of her own agenda the last few episodes, she was once again intriguing. And I'm sad she's dead. I'm not at all sad how she was killed, it couldn't have been anyone other than Dean doing the killing as he's been threatening for two seasons, but Sam needed to have his hand in it too because of everything she's done to him. But I am disappointed they chose to kill her off, since, as the best of all the demons, raiser of Lucifer, she could've had a very pivotal role next season and really become a huge bad ass character. But no, Supernatural has to have this thing about getting rid of strong female characters (which is honestly probably why I really liked her, she managed to stick around for awhile longer than everyone else.) Sometimes I dislike our strong opinionated fandom and the fact that the writers actually pay attention to us.

I'm still not big on the whole angels storyline. I mean, it's totally interesting and I love Castiel (and Anna, although I don't think we'll be seeing her anytime soon), but I think they've left open a lot of plotholes/contradictions in the writing that just won't be explained or clarified. Like, as Uriel was on the side with Zachariah? or was he on his own side? And how the fuck did Castiel not know any of this? And most importantly, Castiel is supposed to be powerful enough to keep an archangel at bay? Maybe I'm just bitter at how Anna was written off, but I think they needed to think through the whole angel storyline a little better.

Sam's eyes turning black, neato. Think it would've been nifty had they gone yellow, but the black makes sense because of the blood (if you go with the fact that technically he's just drinking a meatsuit's body as demons have no blood of their own. which brings me to what happens if he drinks oh say, Jimmy's blood, but anyway). But they've been building up to OMFG EVOL SAMMY all season, and...well, this was it? Meh. Where's the Sam who tries to end the world and then Dean rushing in and Sam trying to rip him to shreds while Dean chinks away at Sam's MUST BE EVIL exterior by telling him stories dealing with yellow crayons? And no, damnit, NOT wrong show. Come on, the similarities have no ends. They're not my favorites for nothing.

Bobby's speech to Dean was perfect Bobbyness, as usual. But then Dean disappears and Bobby's just kinda left hanging. I kinda wanted some closure on that front.

First time we've seen Ruby use her telekinesis, correct? I would've expected more surprise to register on Dean's pretty face. (I almost typed Jensen, lol).

Lilith being the final seal was predictable.
Ruby being bad was not altogether unpredictable (hello, double negative), but the way its revealed was still quite surprising.
The fact that "god has left the building" wasn't surprising. Neither was the fact that Zachariah wasn't a good angel.
Castiel helping Dean was totally predictable.
And of course, the good predictable was brothers reunited, although I have a feeling they will still have their fights to have in the new season.

The Road So Far: Carry On Wayward Son. It wouldn't be a Supernatural finale without it. They wouldn't dare. That song describes those boys so well. Although I do wonder if they have to pay Kansas every time they play it. But I love the "You walk out that door, don't you ever come back" Sam slamming the door, just as the song slams, fade to black.. It's perfect timing, and I LOVE shit like that.

Ilchester, Maryland really has a convent where a bunch of nuns were slain and stuff and it's supposedly haunted to this day. I love how they do their research and then kinda twist it to their purposes. Not such a fan of the CGI yellow eyes. I mean, sure, the yellow contacts made it difficult for the actors to see, but I think they looked better. It's nice to see Azazel getting tied into the story and the grand plan. Also "shut your friggin' piehole, you little slut." lmao. Also, hello reuse of an angel statue.

"Suite Life of Zach and Cass" It scares me that the writers think Dean would watch Disney. It scares me the writers know of that show.
"Bail on the Holodeck" Oh snap, two Star Trek references in as many weeks.

WTF is it that Sam can do to demons to torture them so? I'm intrigued. And Ruby's "I know, you just can't trust anyone these days." Foreshadowing yourself, huh, beeyotch. And in one of several "Sam can be a dumbass" moments, did he really forget that the demon was possessing a woman, that the blood he's planning to drink is just the blood of a human host? Sigh.

Aw, Dean's voicemail apology in typical "I love you but I can't say it" male fashion. There's nothing inherently wincesty about the comments he makes, but strangely enough, I read into them.

"What's black and white and red all over?" *snicker* I think Ruby's best lines this season are in this episode.

Dean's mild embarrassment at Cas showing up after breaking the statue. "The BM I took this morning." Okay, I talk about that shit to people all the time, but really? To an ANGEL?

"God, I wish she would just shut up." Kidnapper!Sam is strangely relevant to my interests. I also think the word "persqueeter" should not be used twice in the same season.

I really should utilize screencaps in this but I'm lazy. I love the shot of Zachariah when he's breaking the ridiculous news to Dean that the egotistical angels are on Team Apocalypse's side. It's that wicked mirror-within-a mirror-goes on for infinity look. It's sweet, and doubtfully unintentional. It's a sweet shot. Combined with the shots of real art, Lucifer rising and all that.

"a little nudging in the right direction." Does that mean that Zachariah knew about Ruby, that an angel was accepting help from a demon to start an all-out full scale angel/demon war? that doesn't make sense. "our own little Russel Crowe complete with surly attitude." SNICKER SNICKER SNICKER. "two virgins and 72 sluts" "god has left the building" You know what, I LIKE Zachariah and his smart-assyness.

I love the "ching" sound that happens when Dean punches Castiel. I like this Castiel again, the one you can see teetering on his emotion for Dean and his duty as an angel. This whole "we're done professionally" conversation is great Dean/Cas interaction.

"I'll take the pain, the guilt. I'll even take Sam as is." There's my Dean. There's the Dean we've been holding on for all season, not the "I wish I couldn't feel a damn thing" Dean.
Buffy: Kendra, my emotions give me power. They're total assets!
Kendra: Maybe. For you. But I prefer to keep an even mind...
Buffy: You're good, but power alone isn't enough. A good fighter needs to know how to improvise, to go with the flow...You feel it, right? How the anger gives you fire? A Slayer needs that.

/flaily car junkie sidenote Ruby's car is PRETTEH.

I love Castiel's split decision to save Dean. Although his voice is a little scary. Or course it's predictable, but the sudden way it happens, and pretty much even the trip after to Chuck's is pretty cool. I love how adamant Chuck is that the story isn't going where it's supposed to. "We're making it up as we go." Oh, Cas. And the knife Castiel uses to cut himself for the sigil is wicked cool. Is that the demon killing knife? Wonder if there's a reason he used that knife and not just any knife.

"Free at last, free at last, lord almighty, free at last."

Aforementioned Dumbo speech. And I'm not even sure I've ever SEEN Dumbo. It just fits SO PERFECTLY.

I still don't think the answer of "It had to be you, Sam. It was always you" was given. What would've happened had Dean not made his deal and Sam stayed dead and Jake been Azazel's chosen one for good? Just one of many holes not explained. I'm hoping they'll expand on that a little further, especially since Azazel's scene with nun!Lucifer hinted at why it had to be him but cut off before more explanation could be easily made.

The gate to Lucifer's hell is a pretty friggin' neat design.

Wonder if "you shot your payload on the boss" means he won't have dt's if he doesn't drink anymore blood. And here I was just figuring he couldn't kill Ruby because of some weird feedback do to him drinking her blood in the first place.

And of course it ends like it must, brothers together. *cough* Fisting each other*cough*...'s shirts. (I had to.) They've got a ways to patch up, though, and I hope they won't smooth over that next season.

Fade to white.

"I WAS THE BEST OF THOSE SONS OF BITCHES I'M AWESOME." Indeed you were. RIP Ruby. :(

rl entry to come at a later date, once I have a chance to collect my thoughts on the matter.

I'm sure it's real hard-work to get your mom to watch the show! ;) Does your Dad stay in the room for BSG? I'd be surprised if he doesn't because it has such a dominantly male fanbase. But then again, my hubby watches a lot more SPN episodes than BSG episodes with me.

Oh, and Dean is very funny. I can't imagine anyone not laughing at his antics. lol

I think so. I don't think he had quite as much interest in BSG, probably just because it's more complicated and harder to follow if you don't pay pretty close attention.

My boyfriend doesn't find Dean all that funny! Here and there he laughs, but usually he just rolls his eyes at him. Actually, that was the catalyst for one of our biggest fights! lol. how trivial. But he thinks Sam is much more funny.

You are right about BSG. I took my hubby to the big-screen screening of Razor, and I was almost driven insane by the questions he kept asking me!

Hehe, I'm sure your boyfriend is jealous of Dean for capturing your affection! I never thought Sam as funny. He may land in a funny situation (i.e. BDaBR), but he's definitely not funny on his own. He's more of the emo type imo.

I think Dean's reactions to Sam are funny. Sam CAN be funny, but usually because of Dean somehow. I agree, he's kinda more the emo type. Up until this season at least. Think Dean takes the cake for that now. He probably is a little jealous. I do tend to talk about Dean and Jensen a lot, lol.
