{chicon} sunday and the journey home

So yeah, Sunday the big day. Gotta admit, I was pretty exhausted by this point, so I definitely missed some of the little nuances that made it so perfect.

Of course I was sad that I couldn't attend the breakfast, not being a gold ticket, but damn, sleeping in an extra hour was amazing. There are three things this weekend that I think were the smartest decisions I've ever made:
1. Deciding to share a Jim/Misha photo with Caroline.
2. Deciding to go ahead and get a room Saturday night, even if it was in the smoking section of the hotel. Without it I would've missed the Sat. night bar scene.
3. Deciding to stand in the question line during the J2 panel, even though I didn't really want to ask a question.

My biggest regret, and pretty much my only one of the weekend, is my J2 photo op. Not glad I did it, because hey, I touched Jared and Jensen! lol. But honestly, I don't remember the actual moment hardly at all. I talked to Clif briefly while in line, and then when I got right up there, I told Stephanie she had an amazing singing voice, which was a bad move on my part because I kind of lost my focus of "don't fangirl in front of them." lol, then I was up and I walked up...and stepped on Jensen's foot. :( I apologized briefly and then Chris snapped the picture, but the look on my face is absolutely ridiculous, so the picture will never see the light of day again. I wish I wouldn't have given into the pressure of "move along quickly now" because I barely even looked at Jared I was too freaked out that I'd stepped on Jensen's foot. But I did manage to look up at them both and say "thank you" before leaving. And honestly? It may just be because I'm so short and used to looking up at everyone I know, and that Brett is around 6', but neither Jared nor Jensen were all that spectacularly tall to me. Ridiculously good looking in real life, sure, but not ginormo. So yeah, only regret is not staying more composed and savoring the moment more during the photos. Also, wishing that I'd worn a different shirt so I didn't look so goddamned fat in the photo. But I do have the satisfaction of knowing that Jensen's smiling in my picture. :) Jared looks a little goofy though.

By now I think good coherent reports of Jared and Jensen have popped up, so of course I'm not gonna strain my poor brain trying to remember it all. But I do want to mention the highlights for me personally.

I started out waaay in the back in row EE, but about 5 minutes in I decided to go for it and hopped up into the question line, not actually intending to ask a question. For some reason we were not supposed to take photos from the line, something about it not being fair to the people in their seats, idk, but I didn't mind since well, crappy camera, and hello, good view. Which is also why there are next to no tweets from me about the panel either. All eyes for the boys, I was.

Someone asked what were some of their dreams that they'd not yet accomplished, to which Jensen answered quickly but as earnest as could be, "having children." to which the crowd "awwwwed" like nuts and Jared, of course needing to be included says, "well me too! Having kids!" Jared then gave a kind of "you're always accomplishing your dreams" type speech and then Jensen added on that he'd like to fly a plane and maybe base jump. But not base jump if he had kids, and Jared says something along the lines of "you could throw them off." And then Jensen: "Well, he's not allowed to have kids." Jared: "Not my kids, yours." Jensen:..."and he's not allowed to babysit." Just the image of Jared babysitting Jensen's kids...HOW CUTE!

Someone asked if they could replace anyone on any current show, what would it be, and Jensen's answer was Mike Rowe on Dirty Jobs, and he thought Jared's should be Man Vs. Food, which prompted a hilarious little reenactment of Jared at the dinner table, with Jensen "air" shoving his leftover plate in Jared's direction and Jared picking rigt up the "air plate" to scoot in front of him. Jared said that sometimes it gets embarrassing because everyone at the table will shove their leftovers at him and waiters will walk by and see stacks of empty plates in front of him. "I HUNGRY" he said. LOL. It was just so cute.

I don't remember the question but Jensen said he thought he'd play Michael like John Travolta, to which Jared says "Battlefield Earth?" *headdesk* Later someone asked what they would do as Jared and Jensen if the apocalypse came, and Jensen's like "then I would bem ore like John Travolta in Battlefield Earth. "
Jared: "I'd be like John Travolta in Grease."
Jensen: "Or like Olivia Newton-John in Grease." /banter.
Then Jensen mentioned he'd like to blow things up, like "what are you gonna do, arrest me?" then mimicked a bomb going off. I absolutely HATE Battlefield Earth, one of two movies I will never ever see again, so just them referencing it made me kinda giggle for some reason.

There was a question about the spontaneity of the Eye of the Tiger scene, which, come on, do some research folks, but actually led to a cute little moment.
Jared: We didn't rehearse it on set or anything, but he's probably been singing it in the shower since he was like 8. *cue Jensen almost spitting out coffee*
Jensen: Yeah, it's my mile 3 song on the treadmill *mocks running fiercely* I hope there are pictures of his face in that moment somewhere, priceless
Jared: *lifts his leg like the leg guitar* So how do you do the leg guitar while running?
Jensen: Takes practice.
AHAHAHAHAHAH

Then there's the girl who said, "Don't laugh but I wrote it down" to which we got to see just how much they think alike and play off of each other, as Jared turned to Jensen and just busted out into hysterical fake laughter at nearly the same moment Jensen did, and they were laughing and pointing and knee slapping for several moments, then both kind of did a winding down "ahhhh" at the same time, which prompted more laughter. Jared mimicked that the girl was just standing waiting with her hand on her hip, and then she started to ask her question and they interrupted with laughter one more time before actually letting her ask it. And it wasn't a funny question at all when she was done.
Jared: "That's not a funny question at all. I thought it was gonna be like 'who farts louder?'
Jensen: *points at Jared and rolls eyes*
I don't even remember what the question was, but it was a good one.

At one point they shifted into character to "ask Sam and Dean" a question about the voicemail that Dean left Sam that Sam heard differently thanks to Zachariah. Jensen didn't have a clue what they were talking about, so Jared was all, "remember? you left a voicemail that was like 'Sam, I'm sorry' but Zachariah changed it so it was like 'Sam, you suck?' I'm not sure Jensen every fully comprehended what they were talking about, but it was just cute to see Jared kind of quietly trying to explain to Jensen. And I love how they do say "you" instead of "Dean" or "Sam" Character bleed, yes?

And of course the auction, which I almost missed from up close, because I'd left my purse in my seat and was getting paranoid about it as people where leaving, and they were trying to get the question line to disperse. So I didn't see it from quite as close as I had been when the panel ended (four away from the microphone), but it was just so amazing. Jared had absolutely no clue how to auction off his watch and was totally put on the spot and a little embarrassed, so Jensen kind of swooped in and saved the day by being Mr. Auctioneer. And a good auctioneer, at that! The watch did eventually go for $3500, and Jared's face just went from you know, grateful that people were bidding on it to just shocked that there was a bidding war over it, to really just moved at the amount of money the woman paid. When Jensen called "sold" Jared just put his hands over his heart and then walked up to the lady and hugged her and talked to her and stuff. And I guess later did give her the shirt off his back (so that we could all see his nice black v-neck tee) and the bracelet he was wearing, as well.

Annyway, I went off to do some stuff while autographs were going on, and at whatever point met back up with Caroline. Thoroughly exhausted at this point and coffee and Red Bulls into the day. Julie was scheduled to speak after autos were done, so we made our way back in, and right as we were heading in, Jensen took the stage again to just say how they were sorry they couldn't personalize anything and that it was all pretty rushed, and to thank us for being so cooperative and stuff. Jared joined him and said a few things too, and then they mentioned that they were off to hop on a plane and go back. But yeah, the two of them standing up there in black shirts is the hottest thing I saw all weekend, and that includes their faces up close.

Julie was absolutely adorable and I watched her panel from row H, as well, but I honestly don't remember much about it at all. At one point I even nodded off I was so tired. I do remember someone asking her what it was like to kiss Jensen, and I wish people would grasp that acting a love scene is not romantic at all, its just technical, so asking questions like that is like asking them "how was it walking across the room" or something. Her answer was good though, and I know she made a funny joke, but I don't remember what it was!

Rob was funny too. We were a little late to the panel, I think I was in the lobby with tahiri and blacklid still and getting updates from Caroline as to when Julie would be done autographing. I didn't realize it was his first convention, and he said that it was much easier than Chuck's first convention on the show, haha. He said that most of what Chuck does IS very Kripke-like, although he's certain Kripke's not quite so "dark." Honestly, he was really funny but I don't remember a damn thing. I do know that somewhere in the middle, I realized that because he was speaking it meant the weekend was almost over, which, sniffle.

So yeah, then he was done and we went out to the lobby and sat for awhile, waited on our photo op pictures, and went home.

AND THEN MONDAY, I left Chicago and Caroline behind. *wibble* Driving out of Chicago was a lot easier than driving in, which thank goodness, because I was listening to one of my driving CDS and I don't even remember what song played but I just started pretty much crying at the thought of it all ending and coming back to this shithole of a life. Alas, here I am.

But FIRSTLY, my dumb ass decided to make a side trip down to Merom Bluffs because every time I drive by the sign to Merom I'm like "I should go." SO I DID. Which was like an hour out of my way because I literally went back north on a different highway. Got to the park, parked my car, and proceeded to walk down about 400 stairs, down to the bottom of the bluff. Well about halfway there I noticed that there was a road I could've taken to get down there. goddamnit. But I was already committed, so I made my way to the bottom over some really scary steep stairs. Wondered around a little bit but then I heard gunshots, probably from someone hunting and freaked out, and slowly made my way back. up. the. 400 steps.

Seriously felt like old!Dean at this point. Then when I got back to my car I decided to go ahead and drive down there anyway, but when I made it to the bottom and tried to go back up, my car couldn't make it. I have never, ever, had to throw that car into 1st gear to get up a hill, but I did. And it almost didn't make it then, and then I forgot to take it out of first when I got back to the highway. PSHHH. but yeah, I did finally get to Merom so that's something. But my legs are SO FRICKIN sore today it's ridiculous. I can't even LIFT my left leg without serious muscle pain. NO FUN.

Eventually I'll get caught up on sleep, and here soon I need to get a job. My mother, just as I was afraid, turned into quite the bitch when I got back. I have out-stayed my welcome in my own home, eh.

The whole experience has been so surreal and fleeting, but other than the photo op, I don't think I'd change a moment of it. I really think this was the calmest, most organized, and most drama-free convention of any there has been, and it was SO NICE as I was expecting to cringe at least two or three times over questions. I met some totally awesome people and would've loved to have met so many more. Maybe I will if when if I go next year. THE END.

Oh, but question to those more caught up than me. Did ANYONE ANYWHERE mention any engagement news? I heard Alona supposedly said something but that's hinky to me. I'm talking like during photo ops or autographs, did anyone try to congratulate Jensen or anything?

And does anyone know if there's someone transcribing the panels? I thought I might contribute to the world by doing so, since there are some pretty complete videos and it takes me not time at all to transcribe things.

Eventually I'll catch up on comments and sleep and stuff. Tomorrow it's back to Indianapolis for hopefully Brett's all clear doctor's appt.
THE END.

As far as I know, the engagement issue was not touched on at all. Reports are that Alona may have mentioned something about Jared being engaged during a one on one with a fan or something but to be honest, unless I heard it from the horse's mouth, I ain't believing it.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm not keen on believing it either. That's really kind of impressive then, though, that it wasn't made a big deal. 'Nother reason why this con was so awesome.

"all applicable appendages" made me wonder what types of appendages could be made applicable. Kidneys, maybe?

:D

well is a kidney an appendage? I was thinking more along the lines of arms and legs and toesies and fingers. BUT WHATEVER IT TAKES.

Just wanted to say I enjoyed your con recap, and I'm so sorry about your J2 photo! I got distracted during the J2 panel at VanCon, and have regretted my lack of focus there, too. *sighh*

Anyhow, enjoyed your report, and LOOK, that's K and G in your photo! Hee! :-)

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I can see the icon now. "Surprise!K&G!" LOL

You'd think it'd be hard to get distracted from two stunningly handsome dudes in front of you, right? And yet, so EASY.

[identity profile] erinrua.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
If only I had any mad icon making skillz ....

I think the pretteh is just so overwhelming that our brains go into overload. ;-)

Jared and Jensen have the ability to make people forget their own names, so don't feel bad you can't remember the actual process!

The only Jared/Gen engagement news I've heard was that Alona said it backstage. As far as I can tell [I downloaded the panel], no one asked about it, which is good and respectful because if they are, Jared's obviously keeping it quiet for his own reasons. I seem to remember reading about it in two different places (not just the one I linked on my journal that is now 403) but don't quote me on that.

Someone asked a question about the boys writing each others profiles on Match.com and Jared had to repeat the question to Jensen and he said "If we were both available." and the crowd did the rest. I took from that that Jared ISN'T available, but that of course doesn't mean he's engaged to Gen or that it's even Gen he's dating.

I figure he'll let it slip or she'll let it slip eventually if they are.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
YEah, the match.com question at first seemed a little awkward, and at one point one of the staff tried to rush them to the next question, but they answered it perfectly as usual. Jensen about Jared: " 3 words: single white female."

I really wish Jared would just say "Yes, Gen and I are also engaged. I'm trying to keep it a little quieter than my last engagement." Just to get it out of the way.

[identity profile] xxkezziexx.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah me too. To at least stop the rumours and such. He doesn't have to give details, just state it for the record so people stop answering on his behalf, you know?

[identity profile] albeitslowly.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I heard the same thing about Alona and the VIPs, and supposedly all the VIPs heard it, but none of our business, I guess.

And my friend did congratulate Jensen on his engagement, and he thanked her.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Dunno, I just don't think Alona would spill the beans if HE didn't, yanno?

OH GOOD. I'm glad someone did manage to bring it up nicely. I mean, I didn't want fangirls shoving it everywhere, but a nice congrats during autos I did figure some people would do, no walking on eggshells. Cool.

[identity profile] sunny214.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much - I love your report!
I can imagine how you feel for stepping on Jensens foot. That is something that could happen to me, too. And I would be so embarrassed by it - so from what I read here, you handle it better then I would ever have.
Your report is so beautiful written and I smiled while reading it.
It made my day better somehow - thank you!!!

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
The moment was honestly so fast it was pretty much over before it started.
I'm glad I made your day better!

[identity profile] slayerkate.livejournal.com 2009-11-18 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
The question I hate the most is, "Has anything strange ever happened on set?" or any variant, like "Have you ever seen a ghost?" It's an interesting question, but come on...I don't see anybody asking Jensen if he's ever fixed a laptop, coached football, or spent time in a mental health facility.

[identity profile] alwaysenduphere.livejournal.com 2009-11-19 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. Yeah, the first time that question was asked, it was funny. I think that was the Paley festival. Jensen's story of taking a shortcut to lunch in the asylum

Hey
